The Second Upsilon / Ypsilon / Epsilon is a world-class terrorist group formed by Naoto Miura and Marie Bell Breguet in order to fix the faults in Clockwork Planetwithout worrying about politics. It was named after the legendary clocksmith Y, with its name directly referring to the Second Coming of Y.

History[]

Japan Arc[]

The group makes their debut after the prevention of Kyoto Grid's purge attempt, revealing the people behind of the attempt to the media and destroying the reputation of Vacheron and the Army who were involved.

Several weeks later, they arrive at the Mie Grid to investigate a strange telegram sent from within. They confront AnchoR, the 4th of Initial Y-Series in the depths below. A battle ensues, where the group is briefly separated with RyuZU and Naoto presumed dead.

They reunite and continue their work shortly afterwards, battling, defeating and recruiting AnchoR along with the cyborg Vermouth.

The group's presence proves instrumental in the defeat of the Yatsukahagi and Gennai Hirayama.

As they make their escape from Japan, they are confronted by a mysterious figure who calls himself Ω, who asserts that he is greater than any of them. To prove his point, he killed Gennai, who had been taken prisoner by RyuZU. Due to Marie's friends in Japan, they were able to survive without further casualties and Ω wishes them luck in their endeavors.

Shangri-La Arc[]

AnchoR, having been damaged in the fight against the Yatsukahagi, causes the group to venture into Shangri-La in search of replacement parts. They are unable to find any due to the Grid's pact against working with them, though they meet an aging mainframe clocksmith who agrees to allow Naoto to watch his work.

They are then separated through the machinations of Kiu Tai Yu, leader of Arsenal, who has Vermouth and Halter betray the group to him.

The separated members are able to work fairly well in spite of their situation, with Vermouth, Halter, and Naoto each independently choosing to double-cross Kiu. Vermouth is able to return to RyuZU and Marie with the necessary parts, allowing them to fix AnchoR.

A showdown occurs between Halter and Arsenal's forces soon afterwards, with the former emerging victorious. Concurrently, RyuZU and AnchoR fight TemP, the 3rd unit of the Initial-Y (sent by Ω), and defeat her soundly.

From TemP, they learn that Ω is in Switzerland, making plans to head there.

Additionally in the manga, RyuZU reveals the existence of the final Initial-Y Unit QuartZ, who was left incomplete by Y. She asserts that Naoto and Marie have surpassed him, and were capable of creating their own automata of that level.

Trivia[]

  • The name, Second Upsilon, refers to the Greek letter Upsilon / Ypsilon. This is indicative of being the Second Coming of Y, the genius Clockmaker who had created the planet and several members of the group.
  • Epsilon is the Greek letter for E. Due to a mistranslation, the group's name could be found as Second Epsilon in various media.
